Not because we were gullible but&nbsp;cause&nbsp;most of us never saw it coming.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Global Money Week, Smart Money Talks means asking one simple question before every transfer: whose money is this, and what happens if this goes wrong?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Story You&#8217;ve Probably Lived<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You see&nbsp;a TikTok. \u201cFur overcoat only at NPR 1,000. Last piece available.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You DM them. They reply fast, tell you someone else is also interested, and ask you to send the amount to a wallet number to &#8220;book&#8221; it. You transfer. The chat goes quiet. You check the page an hour&nbsp;later,&nbsp; it&#8217;s&nbsp;gone.&nbsp;You&#8217;ve&nbsp;been blocked.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u00a0weren&#8217;t\u00a0gullible. The page looked real. There were photos, reviews, and story\u00a0highlights. They did everything right on paper.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0exactly what makes this\u00a0scam\u00a0work\u00a0 and\u00a0exactly why Think Before You Follow, Wise Money Tomorrow\u00a0isn&#8217;t\u00a0just a slogan.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0a habit worth building.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Anatomy of a Social Media Scam<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is Nepal&#8217;s most common online&nbsp;scam&nbsp;right now, and it is happening every single day across Facebook Marketplace,&nbsp;Instagram,&nbsp;and TikTok.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These&nbsp;scams&nbsp;follow a remarkably consistent pattern, which also makes them remarkably easy to spot once you know what to look for.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The\u00a0Bait<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0\u00a0Before \u201cNPR 35,000\u201d now \u201c10,000\u201d.\u00a0The price is designed to override your skepticism before it kicks in.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The\u00a0Pressure<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0&#8220;Only one piece left.&#8221; &#8220;Someone else is also interested.&#8221; &#8220;I need confirmation by tonight.&#8221; Urgency is manufactured deliberately.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Trigger.\u00a0<\/strong>Refusal of Cash on Delivery.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Result.<\/strong>\u00a0Payment goes through. The page disappears.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Nepal&#8217;s Cyber Bureau, online fraud cases have risen sharply over the past\u00a0six\u00a0years,\u00a0with advance payment\u00a0scams\u00a0on social media platforms consistently ranking among the most reported cybercrimes, with over<strong> 4000 cases registered every year<\/strong>.
