From the inside, looking out

The title may feel a little misleading. At first glance, it sounds like the beginning of a poem, and yes, I do have one with the same name, but that is for another time. However, this is not a poem. Instead, it is something more vivid, slightly twisted, yet undeniably real.

And to be honest, I do not quite know where to begin.

Perhaps that uncertainty is where every beginning truly takes shape. There is always a quiet anticipation: the pull of a path yet to be explored, the curiosity of its twists and turns, and the distant hope that it will eventually lead somewhere meaningful.

In a way, this feels like The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, where meaning does not reveal itself at the start but instead unfolds slowly, almost reluctantly, toward the end.

So maybe this will be the same.

Maybe, somewhere along these wandering thoughts and shifting directions, we will arrive at a place of understanding: one that only makes sense once the journey is complete.

And with that, I begin.

The Choice

At some point in life, we all encounter stillness.

It is a peculiar kind of pause: where the future feels uncertain, the past offers little guidance, and the present stands before us like a crossroad we are not prepared to face.

In that moment, the mind hesitates, and the body resists movement.

We search for answers that do not exist, for assurance no one can truly give, and for support that cannot always reach us in time. And slowly, almost unwillingly, we come to terms with a difficult truth:

The choice is ours alone.

The Guide Within

So where do we turn when everything feels uncertain?

We turn inward.

More specifically, we turn to the version of ourselves that once moved without overthinking: the younger self. Naive, perhaps, but brave enough to act, fail, and learn.

That version of you still exists.

Only now are you wiser. More experienced. More aware of consequences, yet more capable of understanding them.

So, trust that.

And when even that sense of clarity feels distant,

PAUSE.

BREATH.

Let the noise settle. Let go of the endless “what ifs” and the quiet fears that cloud your judgment. Allow your thoughts to soften until they no longer overwhelm you.

From that stillness, let your calmer, wiser self guide you forward.

Because fear will always exist, but courage is not the absence of fear. It is the decision to move despite it.

The Forsaken Road

Eventually, you choose. You take a step. You begin.

And yet, even as you move forward, a quiet voice lingers behind you. What about the road you did not take? Was it easier? Brighter? More forgiving? Could it have led to something better?
Perhaps.
But those questions, as tempting as they are, serve only to anchor you in doubt.
You made a choice. You moved forward. And that, in itself, holds value. The past is not a place you can return to. The future is not a place you can fully see.

So remain here.

Be present.

Between the Inside and the Outside, and somewhere along this journey, another realization begins to take shape. We exist between two worlds: the inside and the outside.

The inside is where thoughts form, where ideas bloom, where doubts quietly take root. It is personal, intimate, and often overwhelming.

The outside, on the other hand, is where those thoughts are tested. It is louder, unpredictable, and, at times, unforgiving.

To grow, we must learn to navigate both. We must pause the outside world long enough to listen to ourselves: to reflect, to question, to nurture the seeds of thought.

But equally, we must step out of our inner world. We must confront reality, challenge our perspectives, and allow our ideas to exist beyond the safety of our minds.

Because some answers cannot be found within alone.

They require the outside.

Deviation: The Disruption That Creates

Of course, this balance is rarely perfect.

There are moments when we drift: when one thought leads to another, and suddenly, we find ourselves far from where we intended to be.

We take a walk for clarity, only to end up in a conversation. That conversation turns into shared ideas, laughter, and a moment that feels unexpectedly meaningful.

And then, we realize we did not accomplish what we set out to do.

Yet, we lived in something.

This is a deviation.

Often seen as the enemy of focus. The reason behind missed plans and unfinished intentions.

But is it entirely negative?

Not always.

After all, even discoveries have emerged from moments of distraction. Polythene, for instance, was created by accident: an unintended outcome that went on to shape the modern world in profound ways.

Of course, not every deviation leads to innovation. More often, it results in delays, confusion, and scattered thinking.

And yet, sometimes, it creates something new.

Retrospection

Reflection, however, belongs to a different moment.

It does not exist in the middle of chaos, nor at the peak of uncertainty. It arrives quietly, at the edges of a journey, when enough distance has been created to see things clearly.

And when that moment comes, look back with kindness.

Acknowledge your missteps. Appreciate your progress. Recognize the courage it took to choose, even when you were unsure.

Because without that moment of decision, you would not have reached this point.

The End (Or Perhaps, Another Beginning)

There is no true ending to this journey: only pauses, transitions, and new paths waiting to be explored.

And here you are again.

Standing at another crossroad.

The anticipation feels familiar. The uncertainty, unchanged.

And still, the question remains:

Which road will you take?
